As a lot of people are finding out, most of us in the western world are deficient in the Omega 3 fatty acids. Up until now, we have relied on Omega 3 fish oil supplements to give us the daily dose of Omega 3 we needed. Now however because of some clever advertising and a willingness to exaggerate, we now have a second product that claims to be the answer to our need for Omega3 fatty acids. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you krill oil. Some of the proponents of this oil say that the antioxidants found in this oil are 40 times greater than fish oil. However, it still does not act as an efficient antioxidant in the human body, the antioxidants present in the oil are there for the preservation of the oil. And only the preservation of the oil. In the same article, they say that . And I quote: when compared to antioxidants such as vitamins A and B, Lutein, Fish oil. It was found to be 48 times more potent than fish oil. I will leave it up to you as to whether you can believe all of this. Now I will give you a list of some of their claims. Again I quote. It improves concentration and memory It helps to control blood sugar levels in diabetics It gives relief from the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome It reduces inflammation that is associated with arthritis It can help you lose weight It can decrease inflammation and increase respiratory function in those suffering from asthma It can treat skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis It may reverse early stage colon cancer 9. It can lower blood pressure End of quote: Now, krill oil has only a low level of DHA fatty acids. 9% to be exact. This means to get the same amount of DHA that I get from the company that I buy my fish oil from, you will pay 8 times more for the krill oil. And it is not concentrated. Although the phospholipid form appears to be better for bioavailability than ‘normal’ triglyceride fish oils it is considered to be on a par with the ester form that most ethical manufacturers use. Since I am doing a lot of quoting today, I will leave you with another quote from an article that I read. Quote:. A search for ‘Krill oil’ in Google yields many results that smell an awful lot like false advertising by unscrupulous internet marketing pros who are making a ton of money on the stuff. I guess Krill oil has become the new snake oil. End of quote.
