Omega3 krill oil is an Omega3 supplement that is made from krill. These are small crustaceans that are very much like shrimp, except that they are only 1cm to 5cm in length. The are found in most of the worlds oceans, including the North Atlantic. I have mentioned the North Atlantic for a very specific reason. The proponents of Omega3 krill oil say that their oil is free of contamination because they are at the bottom of the food chain. However the North Atlantic is the most polluted ocean in the world, and I would be very surprised if anything that lived in the dirty waters of that ocean was not polluted. It has been proved that krill oil is not free of pollution because research has shown that krill are commonly contaminated by organochlorine pesticides which they pass on to other creatures in the food chain.. I put the manufacturers of this oil on a par with the cowboys who say that their Omega 3 fish oil does not need to be purified because their oil is fresh. They think the public are stupid, and can be fooled by marketing hype. Ethical manufacturers of Omega 3 /DHA fish oil purify their oil by molecular distillation to remove the impurities, and this makes the Omega 3/DHA fish oil supplements purer than the krill oil. Unethical promoters of the krill oil say that it is OK for pregnant women to take their oil. Do not put your child’s health at risk. One of the benefits that krill oil has going for it is the fact that it is in a phospholipid form that is better absorbed by our body than the triglyceride form of most fish oils. Although the phospholipid form appears to be better for bio availability than the ‘normal’ triglyceride fish oils. It is not superior to the ester form used by most ethical manufacturers. It is considered to be on a par. The antioxidants present in the krill oil are for the preservation of the oil. It still does not act as an effective antioxidant for the body. Did I mention that the average bottle of krill oil only contains 2,700mg of DHA. The Omega 3 DHA/esters from the company I buy my oil from, contains 15,000mg of DHA per bottle. Did I mention, that to get the same amount of DHA as from the company that I buy my oil from, you would pay 8 times more for the krill oil. Well, that is all for today folks, have a good one.
