Discover Fish Oil And Inflammation Relation

Health
For a long time, fish oil and inflammation relation was hidden from the world, but not anymore. Thanks to the medical science that has discovered this connection and added it as a feature in the enormous list of the benefits of fish-oil for health. Let us explore further.

According to a recent study on fish oil and inflammation, a group of 50 people suffering from arthritis was divided randomly in two groups. Group one was given fish supplements along with their regular medications, where as group two was given the placebos besides their regular medications. After four weeks, results were encouraging. People who were put on the supplements had less pain and morning stiffness as in comparison to the people in the other group. They experienced better grip and walking pace too.

Fish oil and inflammation connection

Once eaten, the body converts DHA (an omega 3 fat present in fishoil) to a chemical substance called Resolvin D2. This chemical reacts with the inner lining of blood vessels and generated Nitric acid. Nitric acid thus formed acts as a layer between white blood cells and blood vessels, thus inhibits excess WBCs to attach to blood vessels. Hence, are helpful in reducing excess of inflammation in the body.

It is medically proven that regular fish oil consumption reduces inflammation in the body without NSAIDS (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Because these supplements do not have any side effects like NSAIDs, more and more people are shifting to the same.

A word of warning here, not all supplements available in the market are of high quality, some are substandard too. Therefore, it makes sense to do some analysis on the quality supplement you are planning to take. Two important factors governing the extent of oil's anti-inflammatory property are -

1. Purity: Because of increasing pollution in ocean waters, fish caught from them are also tainted. Thus, to remove the levels of toxins, oil should also undergo the proper refining process. For best results, look out for supplements that have undergone the molecular distillation process. This is the only process known that filters out all the unwanted and harmful chemicals from the oil, and leaves behind a pharmaceutical grade end product.

2. DHA content: The recommended ratio of DHA to EPA is 2:1. This is because the body can convert DHA to EPA whenever required, but the reverse is not true. It is recommended that a soft gel that contains 1000mg of oil should have at least 250 mg of DHA and 120 mg of EPA.

You can retrieve both the above information either from the company's website or from the ingredient label.

In a nutshell, take a regular dose of effective omega3 fish oil and inflammation issues will be a thing of the past for you.

It is worth mentioning here that the supplements that consists a mixture of hoki oil and tuna oil have more than twice the anti-inflammatory property as in comparison to others.
