American Idol Episode Review - 2.24.2010 – Season 9 Episode 14 – Top 12 Males After a dismal opening by the top 12 ladies in last night’s American Idol, it was the guys’ turn to see if they could impress. Todrick started it off with Kelly Clarkson’s hit Since You’ve Been Gone and completely remixed it to the point where no one could even recognize the song. One thing about Todrick is that he feels comfortable on stage and is a natural performer so I think he’ll be back. Aaron Kelly was up next and the sixteen year old was full of nerves but got props from the judges for being a natural talent. Each year there seems to be a contestant like Aaron who has the Mickey Mouse Club cuteness, the shyness, and the big voice that the judges and the public fall in love with. Look for this kid to be around for awhile in the competition. The last two performers were blues rocker Casey James and the young family man Andrew Garcia. Now, these two are my favorites to win it all, especially Andrew Garcia, so I was excited to see how they would perform. I thought to myself that if anyone could salvage the night these two guys could. Casey did a good job and was one of the few who actually conducted himself like a real performer. He was comfortable on stage, even when Randy was holding up Kara’s arms and swaying them back and forth. Me personally, I don’t get the whole sex symbol thing with this guy but he’s comfortable with who he is and I think we’ll be seeing him and his chest hair for awhile. I was really excited to see Andrew Garcia, especially since he pulled off his Hollywood week miracle by making the song Straight Up sound cool. Andrew sang a stripped down version of Fall Out Boy’s Sugar We’re Going Down, and although he sounded great the song arrangement just didn’t work and he was chided by the judges. Nevertheless my boy Andrew is still my odds on pick to win it all. It happens every season that I go away from the first round of the top 24 wondering how they even got this far, but just like season’s past look for them to step it up and start performing like they should.
