American Idol Review 3.2.2010 Season 9 Episode 16 Top 10 Males Perform Tonight on American Idol it was the guys going a day earlier than anticipated because of an illness hitting Crystal Bowersox. That provided a little twist on the night and from there it was all downhill. The running theme for this season seems to be a lack of self confidence in the guys. And, to be honest with you, I can understand why they are lacking some confidence. The talent on the men’s side has county fair and cocktail lounge written all over it. Now there was some major improvements by some of the guys, but when you hit rock bottom like some did last week there’s no place to go but up. On a positive note, I was impressed with Alex Lambert’s performance this week and was really rooting for him to bring it. He looked a lot more comfortable with his guitar and I think he has a very unique sounding voice. He’s a pretty quirky kid with the mullet and the thrift store clothes, but I get the sense he’s not trying to go for that look, he just has no clue, which makes him likable. Oh, and we learned from Ellen that if you put an unripened banana in a paper bag it will ripen quicker. Good to know. To me the best performance of the night was by Mike Lynche. He sang the James Brown song “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.” Up to this point I didn’t think Big Mike had much of a voice, but he showed some chops tonight. Other than Mike Lynche there was certainly nothing to write home about on this episode. Everyone was forgettable and I think that we might see Tim Urban sent packing this week. He gave another subpar performance and despite his Disney channel teen heart throb looks he’s just not good enough of a singer. Ellen even gave him some advice and told him to become an actor and try out for the show Glee. Hmmm….not a good sign when you’re in a singing contest and the judges say to you “Hey, you’d make a great actor.” Let’s hope the teenage girls don’t blow up the text message lines and keep Tim around. With the lack of talent and the lifeless performances I’m starting to see why Simon is bailing out after this year. Watch American Idol Brenda R., Staff Writer www.tvshowbase.com
