Every city is proud to have its own fair share of museums. These buildings house many old relics, classic slices of history and other items that reveal how the past has led the way towards the future. When it comes to London there are lots of museums you can visit during your stay. So whether you are there for a long weekend or more, you should make sure you don’t miss the following museums. The Natural History Museum in South Kensington is a classic example. One of the big reasons why people love this museum so much has to do with dinosaurs. One of the museum's most famous exhibits is Dippy. As the name might suggest, this is a skeleton of a diplodocus and it takes pride of place in the Central Hall. There is much else to enjoy here too though, including some intriguing displays and exhibitions surrounding the natural power of volcanoes and earthquakes. Elsewhere in London you will find the Churchill Museum. This forms part of the famous Cabinet War Rooms, which are a must see if you have an interest in (or memories of) the Second World War. The Churchill Museum tells you everything you could want to know about every aspect of Churchill’s life, from politics to beyond. You will also be amazed to see the War Rooms themselves – the Map Room in particular is a highlight as it has not been touched since the war ended. It’s clear that London’s museums house many incredible sights that make you think again about the life we are used to today. The Museum of London is the best place to go to find out more about the history of this famous city. The period from the mid 1500s to the end of the 1600s in particular was a turbulent time in which much occurred. More than 100,000 Londoners lost their lives in the plague which ravaged the city back in 1665, and the following year those that were left had to battle the Great Fire of London. All these events and more are retold at the museum every day. The British Museum is also worth a look if you want to widen your view beyond London itself. The name of this museum doesn’t give you many clues as to what is inside, since it holds many different treasures from all around the world. You can go back in time to ancient Egypt or head across to ancient Greece to see many artefacts from that time if you wish. This only touches the surface of what they have to show you. London certainly has a lot to offer in the way of museums. You can book flights to London quite easily and look forward to a visit which will educate and inspire you, thanks to the many museums you will find there.
