We usually see nurses in a hospital wearing a nursing uniform while attending the patients and other people in the hospital. But have we ever given it a thought as to why nurses are made to wear identical uniforms? Well, probably not, and hence here are a few reasons which indicate the importance of wearing a uniform in the hospitals by the nurses. In the initial stages of the nursing history, there were no uniforms assigned to the nurses working in the hospitals. However the trend of wearing similar uniforms was introduced by none other than the great Florence Nightingale, also known as “the lady with a lamp”. Nightingale was the first lady ever to wear a uniform and also highlighted the importance of wearing it during the intense war like situations such as the Crimean War. It was during these times when people understood the importance of wearing uniforms which helped the patients and the soldiers to identify the nurses for their help or need. During a war, it was extremely essential for the wounded soldiers to identify the nurses who could treat them and thus save their life. As a result, the nurses wore their specially patterned white colored full length nurse uniforms. Later, sometime around 1840’s the design of the nurse uniforms underwent certain desired changes that indicated to their academic symbolism. Around this time period, all professions in the academic fields were picking out on their symbols and hence the nurse profession also joined the league. Their uniforms were however not standardized universally and hence varied from one hospital to the other. However, in today’s modern era the nursing uniform is approached with its standard uniform. Mostly, all nurse uniforms in today’s time are blue in color or are in the similar darker shades. All hospitals have their own choice of color combinations for their nurse uniforms. However, most of the hospitals prefer light blue color as it is eye-soothing and also a good choice from the general white colors. Uniforms in brighter colors such as yellow, etc. become an eye sore especially for the patients in the hospital. Hence, a large number of things need to be take care of when selecting the nurse uniforms for all the nurses in a hospital. A large number of hospitals allow their nurses to wear the colorful nursing medical scrubs which are a bit better than the simple nursing uniforms. These scrubs are made from a similar product as the general nurse uniforms. Moreover, they are smart looking and also cheaper than the other uniforms. As a result, they are largely accepted by a number of nurses from all across the world. You can avail these simple scrubs on the web in the various online stores. These scrubs are also available in printed patterns which look smart on the nurses. However, the only drawback about these uniforms is that the nurses wearing them in the hospitals are not identifiable from amongst the other staff members or people. Hence, wearing the simple colored uniforms is a good choice. Mike Vera is an expert in nursing uniforms and working as a freelance writer for online retailer of peaches uniforms in USA.
