The idea of getting braces has a certain stigma about it. Neither children nor adults like the thought of having to go see the orthodontist. The day of application, the orthodontist or dental assistant will dry your mouth and apply a liquid that preps the surface of the tooth for the cement. Cement is applied to the brackets and these are then placed on your teeth. A special plasma light is used to help the cement adhere. When this step is complete, then the arch wire is set in place. This wire goes through the brackets and allows for adjustment ass needed through the course of your treatment. Once this is done, tiny rubber bands are placed on the brackets to hold the wire taut. Kids generally like this part, as they get to pick out the color of the rubber bands. All of the colors of the rainbow, and then some, are generally available! Adults may want to check on the availability of ceramic brackets as these are not as noticeable. Dental veneers are another option. While they will not actually do any straightening, they will give the appearance of perfectly aligned smile.
