As much as experienced travelers value cheap airplane tickets and cheap vacation packages, many continue to express frustration going through long lines at airport security checkpoints. Now frequent fliers have new hope with the announcement that the Clear program, which previously allowed members to quickly and easily move through airport security will be up and running again this fall. The program shut down last June, due to financial problems. At the time there was concern over what might happened to the sensitive personal data members had provided in order to gain quick passage through security check points. This data is currently being stored at a large unidentified, for security reasons, security company. Clear customers will shortly be asked if they wish to have their personal data transferred to Alclear, who purchased Clear’s former owned, Verified Identity Pass. Personal data will be erased if so requested. Prior members of the Clear program had to be fingerprinted and agree to have their irises scanned for identification purposes, as well as provide their Social Security numbers which the company then shared with the TSA (Transportation Security Administration). Members were than able to gain access to shorter security lines at about 20 airports throughout the U.S. Alclear has announced that the previous subscription terms of 160,000 Clear members will be honored. New members will be able to enroll starting this summer. It has not been announced which airports will support the new version of this service. Membership will cost $179 per year for unlimited use. www.cheapfares.com
