There are also plenty of open markets on Fortitude Alley that feature independent crafts artisans. Chinatown is home to plenty of small, fun shops that offer incredible bargains. Brisbane is also filled with small cafes where it's always fun to have a quick drink and relaxation. If culture is what you are after, visit the galleries that are all over the city, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Brisbane Orchestra. There are plenty of smaller theaters and musical venues that show off Brisbane's culture. It's a great way to see for yourself that Australia isn't all about kangaroos and the outback. Since Brisbane is fronted by water, take advantage of cruises that allow breathtaking views of water mammals such as whales and dolphins that frolic in the Pacific Ocean. If you go inland, you can take time at some of the lovely gardens on your way to one of the local zoos and see animals that you can't find in the Western Hemisphere.
