A single parent from St Helens has become the 4000th person helped to find work by St Helens Chamber, through its range of employment services supported by St Helens Council. Frank Unsworth, from Clock Face, was made redundant from his job as a driver after two and a half years with his employer. He got in touch with Starting Point, St Helens Chamber’s employment advice and guidance service. After meeting with a guidance adviser, who helped Frank to update his CV and identify his key skills, he was given training to help improve his employment prospects of finding work as a driver. While Frank was training for his qualification his Starting Point adviser helped him to complete job applications and also arranged for him to have mock interviews to help him improve his interview technique. After successfully completing his training Frank found work with Euro Car Parts in St Helens. Now Starting Point are helping him financially until his first pay day with benefit supplements and funding for his son’s school dinners. Frank says: "As a single parent, being made redundant was a real nightmare but with Starting Point helping me out, it didn’t feel like the end of the world. They helped me focus on what I needed to do to get back into work quickly, and with their help, that’s what happened." Starting Point helps those looking for employment or learning with a range of support including help with CV writing, confidence building and training. Kath Boullen, Chief Executive at St Helens Chamber, adds: "We were delighted to help Frank get back into work and are very proud to have helped 4000 people in total. Our employment services at Starting Point give people the confidence, skills and preparation they need to help them back into working life."
