Fishing is a big sport and people think that they have to travel to the middle of the river by a boat for a good catch of fish. But it is not true in the case of snook fishing. If we follow simple techniques and understand the characteristics of snook fish, fishing them from the shores will be more successful. People often want to fish from places which is convenient for them and do not think if that place is favored by snook. A short survey of it will help us to solve the problem. All you need is to choose the correct spot for fishing. You cannot expect the fish to reach your nets, but you should reach the places where fish is found in abundance. The snook can be caught all long the year. But the high time is from May to August in the gulf coast and June to August along the Atlantic coast. They dread winter and become more vulnerable when a frost sets in. When the temperature is around 80 degree Fahrenheit in summer, they march towards the beach and if you could spot out where they lodge, you could be successful in fishing. They station at places near structures where the current would bring their food their way. They look for a surface feeding frenzy. So, they are caught mostly in running water. Snook usually cruise along just above bottom, or they may park under docks or near the pillars of the bridges or under the rocks, balancing themselves on their pectoral fins. They are found in shallow water. But people think that there will not be any fish, as the water is shallow and do not venture to fish in such places. It heads towards the places in water barely deep enough to float its bulk, especially for catching crabs and then it swims back into the trough. If you see finger mullets or large shrimps, then there must be snook too. When the migrations of the mullets take place once in a year, you could get lots of fish. The best places for shore fishing of snook are dead ends of pathways into the water, near bridges, rocky boulders that could be accessible from the shores, and the places where the water is warm running with good current. They show up consistently along the shores on both the side of the spawning passes. The snook like warm water, so they are found near power plants during winter season, as the water in those areas are warmer. But as people are not allowed to go near power plants, we can hunt them in warm water runoffs. Better not to fish in the same spot every day; if you constantly change our place day by day, you could get a good yield. Cast your net as farther as possible to get a better coverage, when you fish at the shore. If you use baits, you can use mullets, shrimps, pinfish, green backs, and lady fish for snook like them very much. You can also use soft baits on cold mornings, with salt embedded into it. Shore fishing need not always be carried on in areas which has the board, ‘Fishing is allowed here’. Rather, there are so many untouched places which have an ample store of snook. Think wise in selecting appropriate place, and enjoy this great game.
