There are many varieties of pipes available in the market. These pipes are made from glass, ceramic, plastic, metal and concrete etc. Among these different types of pipes, the most commonly used pipes are plastic drainage pipes. There are various reasons behind the popularity of plastic material over other materials. It is the qualities and attributes of plastic that allure people more as compare to other materials. These properties include high durability, non-corrosiveness, resistance of chemicals, light-weight, and easy malleability etc which make it easy to install these pipes more easily. Plastic drainage pipes are widely used world wide for the purpose of drinking water distribution and waste water drainage system and some commonly used types of plastics are polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, fiber reinforced plastic, polypropylene and polyethylene. During the installation of these pipes, it is pretty much important to take the required precautions because a single mistake can make the problem more worsen. Plastic pipes are tend to expand and contract, so, workers are advised to either mount the pipes and make use of metal strapping in form of ‘plumber’s tape’ to make them adjust in size and space. Plastic drainage pipes must be installed properly. Don’t put heavy load on the pipes as they can easily bend and the purpose will not be solved. It is often advised that plastic pipes should not be used in extreme heat conditions as it may result in the change in size or shape. Plastic pipes should not be bound rigidly at their ends and should have some gap between them. The pipes should be protected from nails by fitting them with pre-punched and nailed-on steel straps along with installing water hammer resistors and air chambers at each and every joint. When plastic pipes are buried in the ground, make sure that there are no rocks and pipes are laid firmly on the trench bottom ad not on soft-fill. Since 1978 ‘AQUA’ have supplied the rail industry with a comprehensive range of drainage systems. Slotted plastic drainage pipes were later followed by plastic catch-pits.
