The next season he was released. Four days later, the Cowboys signed him. It only took a few seasons for the Cowboys to release him too, following similar issues. Johnson was signed partway through an NFL suspension due to run-ins with the law by the Cowboys. He ended up missing 8 competitions due to this suspension, not showing up on the field until November 11. The Cowboys were taking a chance on him to start with, and as soon as he became a free agent, he abandoned the team to sign with the Bengals.
