It is a well-known fact that diamond, the hardest substance, can only be cut using Diamond powder. Diamond dust is crushed in a mortar making a diamond cutting blade and the powder is used for the wheels for grounding the diamond. Before starting the cutting, examining the crystal and deciding the shape of the diamond to be formed is essential. Polishing is the next step which is done with the help of wheels making thousand revolutions in a minute. The polishing is done on the moist diamond with the use of olive oil and diamond dust. The extent of polishing is not always same as few stones are preferred to be very sharp while others are required to be less sharp. Diamond paste is also used for polishing and is made of particles from the powder and some other liquid. Diamond powder itself is a kind of paste which is available in a spray bottle. Diamond paste is manufactured in different sized grits and colours. It polishes the smooth surface of a metal blade as well as sharpens the cutting surfaces made of aforementioned materials. The size of the grits is measured in microns. Diamond paste can be applied on polishing clothes and a product called diamond polishing extender fluid helps in this method of polishing. Special pastes called polycrystalline diamond pastes are used to polish surfaces that cannot be polished using normal diamond. These pastes are different from the normal mono crystalline pastes. The particles in monocrystalline are flatter in shape whereas in polycrystalline paste the particles are spherical. There is a difference between the perfectly cut diamonds and not very good ones and people realizing the importance of the perfectly cut diamonds, are ready to pay higher price.
