Ok all you athletes of Thomasville, Davidson County, & surrounding areas - the summer is almost over. For those of you going into fall sports, you're about to make that final push into practice and training camp - especially for football. Now is the time to focus on speed training. But the question is why should you? What makes speed and agility training so important to your overall preparation? Simply put, improved speed is what's going to make you an improved athlete. Second only to skill, speed is about the most-needed quality an athlete needs on the field. Take a look at almost any sport - especially the fall sports of football and volleyball. Is there anything slow happening on the field or the court? Not a chance. Many of you have likely spent the summer getting stronger, and improving your conditioning. That's awesome - I'm glad you have. But answer me this - if you can't move...and move quickly...what good does it do you? If you can't make your body do what you need to do, does it really matter what kinda shape you're in? Think about the following scenarios: -a linebacker trying to read a QB going into a 3-step drop, then react to the difference between a short pass play, a handoff to his fullback, or even a pitch out wide -a running back who hits the hole in the line where his running play is to go, but finds he has to 'stutter step' his way out wide to break free -a volleyball player who has to dive for that bump to keep the ball in play In any one of those situations, I don't care if you're strong or conditioned - if you're not fast, agile, and explosive, you're not going to make any of those plays. As the tagline on my site says, strength might punish, but speed kills. Here's the cool thing about speed though - you can train it pretty easily. Speed is all about taking the strength you have, and learning to apply it quickly. Being fast in a straight line is about being able to push off the ground quickly. Having agile or 'quick' feet is about being able to use your strength to make your body do what you want it to do. And in most cases, the fact that athletes just don't train in this fashion at all means that almost any kind of training will make drastic improvements to your speed. And drastic improvements to your speed will mean drastic improvements to your play. That's why I started up Hepler Speed Camps, serving athletes of Thomasville, High Point, Lexington, and the Davidson County area(s). Inside of just a week, I can show you how to develop quickness, agility, and explosiveness that will carry over directly to the field and court, and make you a better player almost instantly. You'll: -improve speed (meaning you can make plays quicker on the field or court) -improve agility (this will not only let you move around quicker on the field or court, but greatly improve your reaction time, as you won't have to be waiting for your body to catch up to what your mind is telling it to do) -reduce the risk of injury (when you can make the play happen, you are in much more control of what happens...think of it like this - are you more likely to sustain an injury on the football field by getting blindsided by another guy, or by being the guy who's doing the hitting?) If you're from Thomasville, Lexington, High Point, or anywhere in Davidson County, and think these qualities would help your sports performance (and really, you'd be crazy to think they wouldn't), then get to the Hepler Speed Camps website, and register for one of our upcoming speed camps ASAP.
