What should you do if you are on a package holiday and you suffer an accident? Your initial actions can help any future accident claims you wish to make. Firstly report the accident straight away or as soon as possible afterwards to your tour rep or guide. If you an independent traveller and are injured in a hotel, restaurant or in another public place you need to report the accident straight away or as soon as possible to whoever is responsible for the establishment where the injury happened If you are not on a package holiday and you are injured whilst taking part in a sport or leisure activity, report the accident immediately or as soon as possible afterwards to the organiser of the activity and also consider making a report to the local police. Make sure that the accident is accurately recorded in the accident report book for the place where you are injured. If you are on a package holiday you can get this from the tour rep and complete the guest incident report form. Keep a copy of the report as it may be important evidence in your case. If you are refused an accident report form, make your own up describing what happened and make sure it is signed by an independent witness and also notify your travel insurer as soon as possible. They will have an emergency help line number that you can call. If possible, take photographs and/or video footage of the place of the accident and whatever it was that caused your accident. Prepare, whilst still fresh in your memory, a detailed sketch plan of the incident. This should clearly show the location of the defect and any warning signs present. Also this should show any other relevant information such as location of any witnesses. Obtain contact details for any witnesses to the accident and find out if any similar accidents have occurred in the past. Seek medical treatment for your injury and obtain a letter or other evidence of your treatment from the hospital or doctor and keep a list of all expenses which you incur and hold onto any receipts.
