has raised over a thousand pounds for charity with an adrenaline-pumping skydive from fourteen thousand feet. Kate Sawbridge, HR Manager of family owned coach tour. operator Alfa Travel, completed the tandem skydive on Sunday 25th July, travelling at speeds of 120 miles per hour, and reaching the ground in just 3 minutes.
Kate was raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society, a cause particularly close to her heart as her grandmother suffers from dementia.
The Alzheimer’s Society provides support for dementia sufferers and their carers, as well as conducting vital research into the causes of the disease, and searching for a much-needed cure.
There are currently around 750,000 people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s in the UK, with worrying statistics suggesting that the figure will rise to over a million within 15 years. In order to keep up their excellent work, the Alzheimer’s Society relies on the charitable donations raised through fundraising drives such as Kate’s skydive. Just a hundred pounds could fund a brain scan for a participant in a clinical trial, while a mere £12.50 would cover a phone call to the Alzheimer's helpline. Kate has so far managed to raise £1,120, and is just seven per cent away from her fundraising target of £1,200. Donations can still be made using Kate’s fundraising web page at http://www.justgiving.com/Kate-Sawbridge
