It would be difficult for you to believe your eyes if your have not visited Delhi in last couple of years. Yes, the city has undergone a sea change with every nook and corner in the key areas receiving a face lift. The central business and shopping district Connaught Place (Rajiv Chowk) has been given a new façade and it has already become the talk of the town. Commuting in the city which used to be a nightmare has been made comfortable with introduction of low floor AC and non-AC buses that are similar to ones in London. Although the horse drawn carriage (Tonga) which used to ply on the streets of old Delhi have been phased out in view of the Commonwealth Games 2010, those who want to travel alone would still be able to board the auto rickshaws, tuk-tuks that are synonymous with most cities in Asia. Road infrastructure has been developed to meet the international standards and the city now boasts some of the best infrastructure in the world. The list of these projects included the construction of Indira Gandhi Airport's massive Terminal 3. The Delhi administration gifted the brand new T3 to its denizens in a record time of 37 months proving the critics wrong. Not just this, the terminal is touted to be bigger and better than some of the celebrated terminals in the world and is being compared to ones in Dubai and Changi airports. The state of the art T3 has been built at a whopping cost of nearly US $ 3 billion and is going to redefine air travel to India. The terminal is Superjumbo compatible and the first A380 (Emirates) is schedule to land here on the 15th July. The world class Delhi Metro Rail meandering through the city, overhead and underground, has been there for a long time making the lives of the city's population easier by offering quick connection to far flung places. The work on the Delhi Airport Metro Express Link that will connect the New Delhi Metro Station to the Airport is fast nearing completion and the project is schedule to get over in September. Built on the lines of London's Heathrow Express, the Metro's airport connection will be a state of the art infrastructure which will benefit the passengers by reducing the travel time between the airport and the city's centre to merely 20 minutes. The project is being privately developed and is estimated to cost the exchequer a whopping US $ 589 million approximately as per the media sources. October is a good time to travel to Delhi. Even if you are not interested in sports, you can enjoy being in the city and soak in the glory of its new avatar.
