The Boxer is exceptionally playful, energetic and can be demanding - but in a frisky, good-natured way. This breed of dog is extremely loyal and, once you have developed a friendship, it lasts forever. The boxer is unique in that it is very intelligent. Not everyone can handle boxers as they need a lot of attention and training. Their keen intelligence can become troublesome as they quickly learn how to get what they want. Boxer dog training involves teaching them to become guard dogs. That is their main character trait. People who are not familiar with boxers often assume that they are naturally aggressive when, in fact, the opposite is true. They are one of the most playful breeds. Their strong physique and aggressive look are partly to blame for putting fear in people's hearts. In fact, boxers who are not trained properly might well become aggressive. Because of their intelligence boxers can be very stubborn. You must realize that there will be times when you ask your pup to do something, he may well look you in the face and basically tell you where to go. Your boxers knows that it is supposed to obey when you command it to do something, but will tend to decide it can't be bothered and ignore you. The main thing to remember in these circumstances is to be patient. Training your boxer pup should start as early as six weeks old. When you do this in a social, playful atmosphere, and keep it exciting and consistent way, you will find that it is more likely to listen. The main concentration of your boxer training should be socialization. In order for your boxer to become a very friendly dog, it needs to be trained to become one. Boxers especially need to get accustomed to other dogs and people. The best way to do this is taking training classes so they will be trained alongside other dogs. When your boxer reaches 13-16 weeks old, it's time for some serious training. At this stage it will test for dominance. It may nip at you and refuse to listen to you in an effort to prove that it is the more dominant one. You must be a strong leader at this time by demonstrating that acting like that will not be tolerated under any circumstance! Boxers can be genuinely lovable family dogs and would make you proud to have as a pet. In fact, they would actually prefer to sit on your lap and cuddle than anything else.
