Salisbury and Southampton Solicitors Trethowans has bolstered its Corporate Team with the lateral hire of Chambers ‘Leading Individual’ Nick Gent as a Partner. Nick is a corporate finance lawyer, advising on mergers and acquisitions, management buy-outs and buy-ins, structured finance, private equity funding, and joint ventures. Nick joins Trethowans from Blake Lapthorn where he was a partner in the corporate team. He has also worked on secondment as in-house counsel to a quoted Plc. Nick qualified in 1994 and is recognised as a leading individual in the South and is a recommended lawyer in both the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and Legal 500. He is described as a ‘stand-out lawyer’ in Legal 500 and is ranked as a leading lawyer in Chambers in relation to Corporate and M&A work, being ‘praised for his commercial outlook, with clients appreciating his ability ‘to simplify complex legal terminology into plain English’. Nick is very well known in the Southampton business community and has recently advised on a number of the South’s significant deals including: • The sale of Kylmar (KMC) Limited, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of sensor and optical surveillance systems for military and security applications, to General Dynamics; • Raising $13m as development capital from two US corporate investors for a client in the energy sector • Funding in respect of the MBO of the Raymond Brown Group.
