Americans love the convenience of nonstick cookware that's easy to use and durable throughout the years. Teflon coated pans are the most popular option in the marketplace today, despite problematic side effects. If more people had ready access to how harmful cooking with Teflon pans truly are, they would consider choosing more Teflon-free eco friendly cookware with nonstick capabilities instead. DuPont created and continues to market the Teflon brand without any warning labels for consumers. For almost 50 years DuPont has stuck by its promise that if used within a "normal" temperature range it won't release harmful chemicals into food as the compound degrades. DuPont stands by its press release stating that only when temperatures within the pan rise about 600 degree Fahrenheit will potentially deadly chemicals release into your foods. Studies have shown, however, that stove-top burners can reach over 700 degrees in a matter of minutes and pans heat above that same threshold shortly thereafter depending on the strength and speed of your range as well as how it is powered. Either way, it does not take long your pan to reach over 600 degrees, so DuPont's claim that normal cooking won't encourage the breakdown of Teflon into foods is simply erroneous and under-handed. Unfortunately the government has not researched and deliberated on the health of Teflon coated pans so their claims go unchallenged. Since the FDA has not studied Teflon's dangers and affects with cooking, I made the decision to purchase pans that are not only better for my health, but the environment. Eco friendly nonstick cookware allows me peace of mind when cooking for my family while helping to conserve energy. Talk about a win-win situation!
