Teaching youngsters about the history and culture of another country can be a difficult task, but you can make it easier and more enjoyable by organising a school trip to the country in question to help your students really make a connection. Paris is a great location to journey to if your pupils are learning about the region. Full of educational opportunities, the French capital is also a cultural hub home to cafe culture, fashion and the world-famous Disney theme park. Once you've booked your school trip to Paris and settled into your hotel, your students are sure to want to start exploring, and where better to begin your tour of the city than at the Parisian landmark of the Eiffel Tower? Built initially for the World Exhibition in 1889 - which celebrated the French Revolution of 1789 - the monument stands 300 metres tall and can be explored if you fancy a journey on foot to the top. Here you'll find some fantastic views over the city. The tower is just one of Paris' famous monuments, so next why not show your pupils the beautiful Arc de Triomphe, commissioned by Napoleon in 1806? Completed in 1836, the arch bears the names of the generals who commanded French troops during Napoleon's regime and is a great example of classical architecture that draws on previous Roman structures. Another landmark you're sure to want to visit is the Palace of Versailles. The official residence of the Kings of France between 1682 and 1790, the palace was first built as a hunting lodge for Louis XIII and then expanded in the classical style. As well as architecture, while in Paris you might also like to show your students around the many art galleries and museums to be found in the city. The most well-known is undoubtedly the Louvre, where you'll find pieces by masters such as Da Vinci. Works date back to the 13th century and are accompanied by Egyptian relics and sculptures. If you think it's time for some fun, why not treat your pupils to a trip to Disneyland? The theme park has something for all ages so you might find younger students enjoy exploring Sleeping Beauty's castle and meeting their film heroes and heroines, while older pupils might relish the chance to find out more about time and space at the discovery section of the park. And before leaving the capital, why not rest up on a boat ride along the Seine? Here you can view the city while relaxing before making the journey home.
