Decisions, decisions, decisions - life sure is full of choices. From what breakfast cereal we’re going to eat, to what film we’re going to see at the cinema, one could argue that there are too many decisions to make on a day-to-day basis and that we are spoilt for choice.
Choice is a good thing too. From a consumer perspective, it means businesses have to compete with one another to offer the best services and products, which ultimately means fairer prices and more freedom for you as the buyer to choose alternative options.
Unless you’re content living in a dark cave, the chances are you’ve had to manage or liaise with a home energy supplier in the past. Whether it’s paying an electricity bill, providing meter-readings or changing names on a particular account if you get a new flatmate in, you’ll no doubt be aware of the processes involved in making sure your fridge, TV and lights have enough power.

Furthermore, if you’ve never switched electricity providers before, you can often secure better deals by signing up to a new supplier online. You can often get fixed rates for a set period of time, so that any external factors that influence energy prices won’t affect what you pay.
It’s also important that you choose an electricity supplier with no termination fees. This level of openness and transparency means that they acknowledge the need to offer quality service – and it demonstrates a genuine confidence that you won’t want to leave them, which is a very good sign.
Furthermore, environmental issues are playing an increasingly important role across many industries and naturally, the energy sector is one that is affected most. Electricity providers that demonstrate that their finger’s on the pulse of green issues means more than ethics. It means that they are striving to stay ahead of the game by using innovation to help the environment and keep consumer costs down.
So choice is most certainly a good thing. For energy providers, it helps encourage them to constantly strive to offer quality service, which means it’s the consumer’s responsibility to investigate their options to see whether they’re already receiving the best service or if they could perhaps be doing better.
