Did you ever notice that when you try to write an article on a subject that is unfamiliar to you that it simply refuses to come together. Regardless of how much research you do, it refuses to work for you. You read more, check out a few websites on the subject. You fill your brain with the subject details and you are ready. Two paragraphs later you are lost. Your words are not to be believed. In my opinion your articles are not working, not because you have not done enough research but because you are not telling the story in your own words. Our words are our identity. We all have particular ways of expressing ourselves. My family is able to recognize articles I have written because of the words I use. I am not a professional writer by far. I am a poor speller and use plenty of the words I grew up hearing in a small coal mining town. Few of my friends, nor I, went to university. But the words I use when I write are my own and not those of another person. I discovered that the best way to tell a story is to write about a subject that you know about and to use your own words. If you know what you are talking about you become believable to your readers. If I wrote an article on teaching methods it would be a bomb. I know nothing on that subject. The same result would be for an article on fiction writing. Another bomb. I tend to keep to the subjects of which I am familiar. For example, I love the outdoors. All of my life I have enjoyed hiking, camping, kayaking, and taking part in those activities with my wife. When I write I try to tell you about what I love and enjoy about the subjects. People tell me how they are able to feel that love through my writing. I credit that to the words I use and the fact that I write about my love. I have written many articles about family and staying happily married. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife and four beautiful daughters. My love for them shows through my articles. What I am trying to relate to you is that when you write, let the real you show through. Write in your own words, not those of others. Do not try to impress your readers with your superior words or your readers will dump you fast. Write from your heart. If you are searching for a word to use, do not use it if you need to look up the meaning for it. That is not you. That is someone else.
