DJ NAWED – AN INTRODUCTION Are you new to Indian electronica music and keen to discover what all the fuss is about? He is one of the biggest names in an Indian electronica and dance music movement that is fast emerging from the underground to become one of the most popular and vibrant live scenes in the country. ? And even better known for his encyclopaedic knowledge of music. ? He began DJ’ing professionally in 1999 and has since released a bullock’s cart worth of singles and exclusive mixes. ? You can often spot Nawed in his natural habitat – dance music clubs. His acclaimed skill at handling the DJ decks means is regularly found ‘bringing the house down’ in venues throughout India and the Middle East. He’s also toured the U.S., Bahrain, South Africa, Kenya and Indonesia. Some of the clubs he has rocked include Underground and Soho (Calcutta), Envogue and Aqua (Pune), Rock Bottom and Vie (Mumbai), Tito’s and Loungefly (Goa), Elevate (Delhi), and Mixx and Submarine (Dubai). ? One of the biggest gigs Nawed recently performed at was the 2009 Sunburn Festival in Goa on December 27-29. You must have heard of Sunburn Festival, right? Although it only started in 2007, the festival has already grown into a massive event. Each year, it attracts thousands of fans looking to party to Indian and international dance music. Festival 2009 was bigger than ever with two legendary DJs headlining. Armin Van Buuren – who was voted number one in DJ Mag’s prestigious Top 100 DJs in 2007, 2008 and 2009 by more than 350,000 readers from across the world – and legendary house DJ, Roger Sanchez, played to an ecstatic Sunburn crowd, who were dancing like there was no tomorrow. ? DJ Nawed wasn’t missing out on the fun either. Following this performance, DJ Nawed handed the Sunburn console over to world renowned and Grammy award winning superstar DJ, Roger Sanchez. Roger began DJ’ing back in the 1980s and has not taken a backward step ever since. He has played at the world’s biggest clubs and festivals, including a regular residency in Ibiza, and in 2002 started the widely respected music label, Stealth Records. ? Roger is a massive DJ’ing hero to Nawed. The opportunity to DJ on the same Sunburn stage as Roger was a moment that Nawed admits he will relive for the rest of his life.
