If you find yourself dreading the rapid approach of winter this year, or you are reading this article during the winter, then you must be someone who suffers from the winter blues, since that is what the title of this article is about. The winter blues can be everything from just a general lack of energy or desire, to full blown depression. One of the major culprits that cause the winter blues is folks often find themselves stuck inside on the them cold winter days with nothing to do. First of all, a person with nothing to do, is what I would consider a very lucky person, but that's just me thinking that way. I often wish there was a lot more hours in the day, to get things done, and so don't most other people, in fact a lot of us don't have time to get the winter blues. Just about everyone has seen origami at one time or another but may not have recognized it by it's name. Origami is the Japanese art of creating a unique shape from paper folding. True Origami is done with nothing but the hands using no tools, of course as times change some folks now use objects to help make sharper folds, and some people use paper clips to hold the folds together. Origami creations can be made from mostly any standard paper that is cut into an even square, as long as the paper can be easily folded. You can create almost any shape with origami when you become skilled at it, some of the things you can create are; fish, birds, flowers, insects, and animals. You can buy special origami paper which is also named, kami paper, kami paper is often colored on one side and plain on the other, some versions of it are multi colored. There is also foil-backed paper available from stores that sell other origami paper. There are some people who create origami creations from using the same type of paper, for instance there are some people who make origami from real paper currency, such as foreign or USA paper money, this form of origami is simply called money origami. Other people love just using the foil backed paper, to make shiny origami creations. The best way to start learning origami is to buy a couple books on it for beginners, these books will show you step by step instructions on starting out making simple creations, then moving slowly into advanced designs. There are also numerous origami kits available in book stores and on the internet, the kits have everything you need to get started, such as paper and simple instructions to make animals, birds, and numerous other designs. This winter when you or another family member is shut inside during the cold months with nothing to do, create a beautiful item with origami, it's not only fun, it's also a great way to help beat the winter blues.
