Removing age spots on face can be a tedious time-consuming process. Some people spend lots of money on dermatological treatments and are still unhappy with the results. Here’s a look at the treatments available today, their safety and their effectiveness. Dermatologists can freeze the cells or apply strong acids to cause peel them away. Either treatment causes pain, redness, bleeding and irritation. The results vary from one patient to the next. My recommendation would be to choose those treatments only as a last resort. A prescription cream containing retinoids can be used to reduce wrinkles and even out pigmentation. Retinoids are the acid forms of vitamin A. They cause similar side effects to those mentioned above. Redness, itching and irritation are among them. The creams are expensive. I would suggest you try over-the-counter products first. There are two basic types of over-the-counter creams; those that are applied only to a single spot and those that are applied over the entire facial area to even out the color of the complexion. The spot removers are difficult to apply accurately. I do not recommend them for removing age spots on face, because they can cause the spot to become lighter than the surrounding cells, which leaves you with the same problem. Creams that you apply to the entire facial area contain different ingredients that vary in safety. The least safe is probably hydroquinone. Its use has been associated with an increased risk of cancer. The alpha hydroxy acids are similar to the acid peels used in dermatologists’ office. They are a little milder, but can still cause the adverse reactions, especially for people with sensitive skin. A European formula containing extracts from a medicinal plant commonly referred to as nut grass has proven to be effective. It works for removing age spots on face by inhibiting melanin production. The spot is composed of the pigment melanin. It is not unlike a freckle. In fact, the spots are sometimes referred to as senile freckles. The nut grass extract can be combined with moisturizers and other ingredients with anti-aging activity. Coenzyme Q10 is an example of one that may be particularly beneficial. It has been shown to reverse sun damage, which is what we believe causes the formation of the melanin clumps. It is important to remember, regardless of the treatment you use to take precautions in the sun. Melanin actually provides protection against UV radiation to the skin’s deeper cells. By inhibiting melanin production, you lose some of that natural defense. Those are my suggestions for removing age spots on face. New treatments are being evaluated, but so far, nut grass extract is the clear winner. Get my free five-part mini course on the benefits of Pure Natural Anti Aging Skin Care.
