Writing short informative articles is one of the best ways to create long term traffic. Although many people shy away from writing as if it were a 'STD', it's really not that difficult. Start with a topic that you either know something about or have an interest in. Create an outline of what you're article's main points are about, and just start writing. When writing a first draft, just put your ideas down on paper without worrying about spelling, and all the other stuff. Once you've completed the article to some degree of satisfaction, you then go back and using a spell-checker, make corrections as needed. You'll probably find that your finished product is quite different from what you started out with, but that's the neat thing, you never quite know what the creative process will produce. While you want to use article directories that pertain mainly to what you're writing about, don't overlook directories that are general in nature, but have large a large number of members. For instance, if your article is about some aspect of Network Marketing, you would want to look for Article Directories that feature articles pertaining to Network Marketing, MLM, Internet Business, etc. Having said that, there are large general directories that you would not want to overlook. Three of the larger ones are 'ArticleDashboard', 'Goarticles' and 'Ezinearticles'. For maximum exposure, be sure to submit your articles to these directories as well as niche directories. When it comes to publishing your articles, there are generally two schools of thought. Some people say that the only way to do it right is to use 'Article Submission Software'. This software allows you to submit your articles to thousands of directories by submitting your information once, thus saving you lots of time, and allowing you to reach markets that would otherwise take you thousands of hours by doing it manually. The flip side to this is that some people claim that by using this type of software your articles oftentimes wind up in the wrong categories and sometimes get rejected. It could also possibly impact your search engine optimization ratings because directories look for articles that pertain to a specific subject. If your article on Network Marketing also winds up in a 'Tips on Raising Hamsters' directory, the search engine could possibly question the relevance of your article. Submitting your articles manually on the other hand will take much more time, but will allow you to be more exacting in your submissions. If you decide to submit your articles manually, use 'Notebook' or some other word processing software to save information such as articles, keywords, and 'Resource Box' information. Having your information saved in files will keep you from having to type it again numerous times. Since many article directories use similar template designs, you'll be able to save much time by having this information saved in files, ready to be cut and pasted into appropriate boxes. Lastly, in writing articles for publication, one of your paramount goals is for your articles to be distributed widely, and for them to generate lots of targeted traffic to your website. How much traffic your article produces is determined by many factors but two important areas that can make or break the amount of traffic you receive is 'Keywords' and the 'Resource Box'. Many article directories allow you to add keywords. Keywords are single or multiple words that people key in to a search feature when they're looking for something. You want to make certain that your keywords are appropriate and are as exact as possible when describing your article. For instance, if your article is about 'Getting Website Traffic' you would want to use words such as, 'increase traffic', 'traffic builder', 'web traffic', 'targeted traffic', etc. You want to be as specific as possible, and avoid general terms that could and will mean a lot of different things to different people. The Resource Box on the other hand, is an area at the end of an article that allows you to talk a little about yourself and your website. Be certain to use this area wisely. Keep your information relatively short and don't make the mistake of trying to say too much. Don't try to advertise several different things in this space, but instead just mention who you are, and have a link back to a site that relates to what your article is about. Writing articles can be a very rewarding experience. Not only will it allow you to express yourself in your own unique way, but it can also help you to grow your business without spending lots of money on advertising.
