Catalytic converters are pieces of a car's engine system which helps reduce the emission of pollutants. There is also converter poisoning, which is a buildup of substances which coat the converter and make the contact between the pollutants and the converter impossible and thus the chemical reaction used to filter the exhaust is unable to take place. Many of these issues can result in a catalytic converters temperature to rise and result, possibly, in a meltdown. Many of these issues will eventually lead to the car itself breaking down and damage to other parts of the engine. In order to prevent this, car owners need to pay special attention to their emissions and have their catalytic converter checked when receiving standard maintenance on their car.
