Is Tap Water Safe For Bathing And Showering - Find Out Now

Health,Environment
No is the answer to the question; is tap water safe for bathing and showering. Here’s why.

Practically all public supplies most be disinfected in some way in order to reduce bacterial contaminants, algae or both. All disinfection methods cause the production of chemical compounds referred to by scientists as “disinfection by-products” or DBPs.

Exposure to DBPs is known to cause an increased risk of cancer. For many years, the risk was believed to be associated with consumption of the DBPs and/or the chemical disinfectants themselves.

From research scientists, we have learned that the chemicals can be inhaled and absorbed through the skin. The concentration present in the air of an enclosed shower stall has been measured after running hot water. The concentration is higher than what is deemed to be safe for indoor swimming pools.

Due to concern for swimmers, athletic research scientists have estimated the risk to people who swim in, shower in and consume the chemicals. The risk has been deemed “unacceptable”. Chlorinating a swimming pool is essential. Bacteria would build up quickly and people would become ill.

Disinfecting public supplies is essential. Numerous diseases are transmitted via the public water supply. A large group of illnesses are designated as “waterborne”. They are borne or carried from one person to another via the water.

There is still some debate about the answer to; is tap water safe for bathing and showering, even with all of the studies that have been completed. The debate has to do with the amount of actual risk, which has yet to be satisfactorily determined in some people’s minds.

Not everyone who is exposed to DBPs will develop cancer. Researchers have yet to agree on an estimate of what the incidence could be. What percentage of people will develop cancer?

We may never be able to answer that question, because there are so many factors that affect the individual’s risk of cancer. Genetics, general health, nutritional intake, diet, etc. are all factors to consider.

But we can still say “no” to the question; is tap water safe for bathing and showering. One of the risks has nothing to do with cancer.

Chlorine and other chemicals dry out the skin and hair. Some individuals develop rashes. Others have itching and cracked skin as a result of exposure to the chemicals. Still others develop dandruff.

For the skin’s health and appearance, for the appearance of your hair, for a reduced risk of cancer, all you need to do is invest in a simple showerhead filter. The filters can be installed in a matter of minutes. Some systems come with a removable head to make it easier to fill the tub.

If you install this kind of system, the answer will be “yes” to the question; is tap water safe for bathing and showering. The answer always depends on the steps people take in their own homes.
