Assembling your own framed butterfly display is simpler than you may realize. Find out how to make your own real framed butterflies display. Butterflies species can be found in a variety of different sizes and colors and are considered to be very attractive by collectors. Quite often, a lot of people desire to decorate their home with real framed butterflies, or have them on display in some manner, but obtaining such exquisite pieces of art can be quite costly. Luckily, creating a personal exhibit is something the average individual can successfully accomplish on their very own without having to spend a lot of money. Some steps to follow in assembling your own display are: Step 1) Capturing your own may be quite difficult so the easy route is to buy your own butterflies from online sellers. Purchased specimens often do not come with their wings open so it is necessary for you to relax them, spread their wings, and then dry them for a second time. Step 2) After you have gone through the first step of relaxing your dried butterflies they can then be used for framing without damaging them. Put each specimen in an envelope and fold it over while making sure to cut off a corner to allow for moisture to come in. Place the envelopes between two moist towels inside a plastic box. Then put moth balls around the envelopes, to prevent mildew from forming, and then cover it with a lid. You now need to wait for about 24 hours. After this time period your specimens should look relaxed enough for the next step. Step 3) Open the wings one at a time by pinching the thorax of the butterfly with the tip of your fingers. Make sure you do this gently and once you do, wiggle and bend the wings a bit, and then do the same thing on the other side. Do not forget to keep holding the thorax on the outside. Step 4) Use a pin to push it through the thorax, once the wings are opened, then push it straight through until it comes out the other side of the thorax by about 0.5 inches. Then carefully push the pin through a mounting or foam board. Once mounted your butterfly needs to be dried again. Step 5) Secure the wings with a slim strip of paper and put the strip from the top down to the bottom of each of the wings. It should overhang so you can position your pins in the paper and not the wings themselves. Make certain the antennae are tucked under the strips so that it resembles a V shape. Step 6) Get a piece of wax paper, or a piece of glass, to cover the remainder of the wings to prevent them from curling. Allow all the butterflies to dry again for approximately two days. After that they will be ready to frame. Step 7) Buy a shadow box from any local or online frame store. Cut a piece of foam board so that it fits snugly into your shadow box. Step 8) Carefully remove the pins, paper and wax paper from the butterfly/butterflies on the temporary mounting board. Next, pin the thorax of the specimens into the foam board within your shadow box. Remove any additional pins sticking out by cutting them off with scissors. Assemble the shadow box, and enjoy your brand new creation. Congratulate yourself as you have now created a beautiful framed butterfly display with your very own two hands.
