If you are an avid reader, then chances are you have read at least one book set in the state of Georgia. After all, with its sandy shores to the east, the mountains of the north east and western regions, big cities like Atlanta or Athens and abundance of small towns, writers always finding and interesting angle or story to share. Perhaps that is why there are so many Georgia authors who love to write about their state. Of course, it’s not just the authors who live in the Peach State who have Southern stories to tell, but many writers from around the country have written stories with Georgia as the backdrop. So, what is it about books that are focused on Georgia that makes them so special? Here are 3 reasons to read Georgia-based books. - Learning the history-For those of us who are not great fans of history class, this may not seem like a plus. However, oftentimes the reason history class was boring and sleep inducing was because the presentation was uninteresting. However, many Georgia writers have taken the same historical facts that were so dull when simply stated and written stories that make them come alive.
- Discover new places and people. Georgia is full of great locations like bed and breakfasts with their own personal specters, zoos and amusement parks, historic locations such as the MLK Center and many others. As you read about the many events that take place in Georgia you can take an armchair journey and travel from the mountains to the sea. Along the way you will find many places that are sure to beckon you to visit.
- Research-If you will be moving to Georgia and want to get a better understanding of the people and places you will soon be a part of, then reading books about the state is a good way to start. You will get a perspective that, while it may biased, can also be very informative-whether you choose to read fiction or fact based works.
Reading means something different to each person who engages in it. It can help one unwind at the end of a busy day or it can get one excited about trying a new activity or visiting a new location. Whether you are wishing to step back in time or looking to reach toward the future, reading is certain to be part of the journey.
