When you think about the approaching winter months, does it fill you with glee or glum despair? In either case, the chances are that there's somewhere you'd rather be - but your opinion on winter could vastly change where.
Depending on where you live, you may not be all that impressed with the winters you see at home. A small smattering of snow doesn't impress many people, except for the kids who'll enjoy building snowmen and taking their sledges down hills. However, if you're a winter sports fan the chances are you're still going to be stuck for places to go. That is, unless you head on a winter holiday to somewhere the snow will really grab your attention!
Each winter, many people head on European skiing trips where they can stay in glorious, warm hotels at night and traverse incredible mountain ranges during the day, on skis or snowboards - or some other thrilling forms of transport, as you might find. If you're a winter sports enthusiast who finds themselves chagrined at the lack of good snow back home, a winter holiday may be the right choice for you.
Of course, winter holidays needn't be to similarly wintry destinations. Just as plenty of people head to the alps for Christmas, many more eschew the wintry weather all together and travel somewhere they can be sure of warmer climates and even the promise of a little sun! Even if it's winter at home, it's summer elsewhere, and if you really want to escape the winter blues rather than embrace the cold, it couldn't be easier to hop on a plane and travel to a country where the temperature is not only hot, but sweltering!
Many people choose to head to hot countries during the winter months simply to escape from the dark, cold days - which can often feel quite depressing if you're forced to deal with them day in, day out. And nothing rejuvenates the soul quite like an impromptu holiday at an unexpected time. Many people go away during summer and don't even think about holidays during the winter time, when the truth is that during winter is one of the best times to travel: cheaper flights and hotels, a bigger contrast in weather between your starting point and destination, and less tourists to bump into whilst on your travels.
