If you are like most people, you probably take a vitamin a day, if you think of it, just because you read somewhere that taking a vitamin a day is a good thing to do, or perhaps going back to your toddler days when your mother gave you a vitamin. Or you might not take vitamins at all because you recall reading somewhere that almost all vitamins just pass through the system and do not do you much good. The truth is that vitamins are necessary for you, and depending on your lifestyle, where you live, what kind of work you do and a variety of other factors, vitamins may even be considered a requirement for your daily nutrition. Think about it. In today’s world almost anywhere in the nation, both spouses are probably trying to hold down a full time job, simply to make ends meet or to get ahead of the game a little bit. With that scenario, most morning are a struggle to get moving, gulping down a cup of coffee and virtually no breakfast, a quick snack for lunch because your job keeps you way too busy, and by the time you get home, you are so exhausted from the day’s activities that take-out is probably the way to go, before you just fall into bed. Am I close to being on target with that? What is wrong with that picture? There is plenty wrong with it, and we won’t go into the lifestyle changes that can and should occur there. But what we need to focus on is the nutrition that your body requires, and how your lifestyle is preventing a good nutritional balance to occur. There are certain vitamins and minerals that your body requires in order for you to be at the top of your game, and with the kind of lifestyle described above, or something close to it, I can almost guarantee that you are not meeting the needs of your body. Sure, you are meeting the needs of your boss, your clients, the company stockholders, but you are neglecting yourself, and there is a price to be paid for that, sooner or later. You are an intelligent person, so you probably will not disagree that there are certain vitamins and minerals required by your body, and that your current lifestyle in many ways prevents you from getting that. And as you get older, the requirements for those vitamins and minerals only increase, so if changing your lifestyle at this point in time doesn’t get you where you need to be, as you get older, your body will almost certainly mutiny in order to get your attention for those vitamins and minerals that it is not getting on a regular basis. While taking the over-the-counter vitamins and mineral supplements are certainly better than just ignoring the problem, you may want to check with your physician or doctor to find out exactly what they would recommend. Some of these OTC vitamins are just too much for some people, while for others they are just not enough. Some contains too much vitamins B6 while others contain too little vitamin C. Your body needs to be taken care of, since it is the only one you have. If you pay attention to the needs of your body in terms of the vitamins and minerals it requires, you can be at the top of your game all day long!
