Many football teams have a long history, until now I find that my beloved Patriots have been playing pro football for 50 years. Recently I've learned as much as I can about the history of my favorite teams. The Boston Patriots were first established on November 22, 1959. Billy Sullivan Jr. was an entrepreneur with a great promotional stunt. The Patriots were becoming a competitive player in the AFL. Holovak won the Coach of the Year honors yet again, but the team dramatically fell out of contention for the remainder of the decade. The team stumbled along to a 7-20-1 record from 1967-68. Mike Holovak was fired in January 1969 and replaced by Clive Rush who posted a 4-10 record to round out the decade. As the decade came to an end, the Patriots and the rest of the AFL became a part of the NFL. All AFL teams became AFC teams, and things formed the foundation for the modern-day NFL from there. While the Patriots found some success in the 1960s, they jump around different stadiums and coaches a few times.
