‘Why my child?’, or ‘How could he ever develop a food allergy?’ might not be the right question to ask yourself or the physician when you first discover that your kid has food allergy. When newly dealing with your child’s food allergy, it is important (for the parents) not to panic and accept things. Remember that this is just how your child’s body or his system reacts to certain food type and nothing severe. It can be taken care of if you know how to deal with it. Many a times these allergies may exist in a very minor form in the child, and can go unnoticed for a long time. It is wise to visit a physician (preferably an allergist) when you first discover or notice the allergic response in the child. Ignoring the problem would not be a way to avoid the problem. It is better to accept it and deal with it in the first go because if untreated the allergic reaction of the body may grow and may become severe in due course of time. When you first visit an allergist due to a concern of food allergy of your kid, there might be many questions that the doctor would want to ask you. He might start by asking about the most recent allergic response that prompted your visit, followed by some other question in an attempt to understand the allergy and its exact cause. So it is advised that the parents try and remember or write down as many of the details as they can. The most important ones amongst them being about the time(s) the child ate, the food that you doubt might have caused allergy etc. Often the food type consumed has many ingredients in it and so this might make it a little difficult in knowing the exact cause of the food allergy. However, close diagnosis might help in catching up the exact cause. It is important that the parents keep an account of the things like how quickly the allergic reaction developed in the child, symptoms that occurred, other food eaten at the same time (cause there can be cross reaction due to some combination etc). A child may not be allergic to any food product or its ingredient in particular but he might be allergic to certain combination of food and so it is also important to notice the combination of food taken by the child. Generally whenever the parents observe something unusual in the child, right from a minor injury to headache etc, they try to deal with it themselves by administering medication etc. This may have consequences at times. And so it is also important that the parents keep an account of the treatment or medication used by them as an immediate remedy to the allergic response in the child. Once the cause of the allergy is discovered, it becomes very easy to deal with it. Most of the allergies either disappear or can be treated as the child grows.
