Patients who are obese go through a very difficult phase of life. Forget walking for a few steps, performing daily routine tasks become battle for them. Thanks to the bariatric mobility aids which have helped them to be independent up to great extent. Bariatric is a medical term that refers to the medical intervention of obese patients for whom obesity has become a life threatening risk. Bariatric mobility aids such as wheelchair, rolling walkers, rollators, patient lifts, benches and scales have facilitated their life and allowed them certain movements without much trouble. When one is obese and cannot move, it becomes very difficult to carry one’s weight. Even the room which otherwise seems okay and spacious become limited and restricting. Some areas such as bathroom can be life threatening for them because they can accidentally slip and sustain serious injuries. The equipments such as bariatric rollators are wonderful medium to ensure their mobility. The functionality and appearance of bariatric devices is different from the general aids. The frames are lighter in weight but designed to sustain more pressure. While buying rolling walkers or rollators for obese patients, you have to make sure that the load capacity of frames is in accordance with the weight. Height of patients is also a considerable factor. Most of standard mobility frames can tolerate weight of 225 pounds whereas special frames can bear up to 600 pounds of weight. They have wider seats so that bulkier patients can sit whenever they feel tired. This is a feature which cannot be found in general mobility equipments. Though, the frame is wider yet it is designed to fit into the usual entrance ways and in cars. The frame of general mobility devices and bariatric rollators is more or less same. It is made to handle increased strength. The seats of bariatric aids are cushioned with foam so that it could be comfortable for patients when they want to sit for long time. You can find many bariatric devices in the market cheaper than the branded devices such as Nova, Invacare, Drive and Guardian but they are not in accordance with medical specifications of weight ratings. So, purchase carefully.
