The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is another popular attraction for tourists. This facility is a scientific centre for the study of plants as well as their diversity and conservation. It was originally founded in 1670 as a physic garden. It was originally developed to grow medicinal plants. Today there are nearly 36,000 plants grown here. These include everything from orchids and cycads to alpine plants. The Palace of Holyroodhouse is another popular place to visit. This palace was established by King James IV at the beginning of the 16th century. It sits next to the abbey that King David I founded in 1128. The north tower remains in tact.
