Aquathol K is a fast acting herbicide which is widespread and is used for in controlling submerged weeds in ponds and lakes. The most important feature of this product is that it is inert towards fully grown plants in the aquatic environment. Beneficial plants like Pickerelweed, water lilies, Vallisneria, Chara, Nitella, Bulrushes and many others are unaffected by Aquathol K. It is a ready to use herbicide with a highly concentrated formula which can be easily dissipated leaving behind no residue. Its efficiency lies in its short residual contact time (just 12-48 hours). Aquathol K is effective on a large variety of species which includes milfoil, hydrilla, and curly leaf pondweed. It begins to work as soon as it comes in contact and starts disintegrating the cell structure of the target species not allowing any protein synthesis in the weeds. A unique feature of the product is its ability to work even in muddy water as it does not have the adhesive power that would have bond it with the organic matter or suspended particles present in the aquatic environment. Aquathol K may prove to be fatal if inhaled. It is toxic towards the skin and causes corrosions. It causes irreversible effects on the eye. Hence the product should be handled and stored very carefully. It should be kept away from the reach of children and should not be allowed to react with mist or moisture. The container should be closed tightly every time after use. Empty containers may contain hazardous residues and hence should be washed thoroughly. However, it has been accepted as an important tool by the Aquatic Pool Management as it helps remove nuisance plants submerged in the aquatic environment and hence helps in restoring a healthy and balanced habitat of the aquatic animals and plants.
