Teeth are important, functional parts of the human body and dentists have been well trained to know all about them. The adult set includes thirty-two which will hopefully last the remainder of his or her life. - There are three categories into which each tooth falls. They are 1) incisors which are used for biting and are located at the front of the jaw. An adult has four in each jawbone. These are each shaped like slender wedges. 2) Canines, which coincidentally share the name used to classify dogs, are used for tearing, something that dogs are quite adept at. 3) Molars are located at the back of the jaw and are used for grinding, similar to the grinding action of a mortar and pestle. - Each tooth has several components. It’s not just a hunk of enamel. A cross section would show that the components include the enamel, blood vessels, nerves, pulp and a root. The structure fits securely into the jawbone. - Teeth are miraculous items and every human is lucky to have them. It would be wise to take extremely good care of them by regular brushing, flossing and maintenance appointments. With appropriate oral hygiene and treatment by a DDS and hygienists, these structures will hopefully remain in your mouth for an entire lifetime.
