Madrid is a very modern city with cultural attractions and a very active nightlife. Museum lovers will have to visit the famous art museum, Museo del Prado. The Prado is an 18th century building and is one of the most famous galleries in the world. There are originals by Bosch, Lorrain, Goya and many other artists. The Palacio Real is another amazing attraction. It used to be a royal residence to the king, but now visitors may come inside and view many important rooms. The gardens and the architecture alone will fascinate the culture aficionado. Madrid has several beautiful parks to relax in and enjoy. The Botanical Gardens of the Glorieta de Murillo is right next door to the Prado which makes it very convenient. There are approximately 30,000 species of plants and trees from all around the world. Each section is beautiful for a stroll because they are divided by marvellous avenues with each plant and tree being labelled. The largest park in Madrid is the Parque de Retiro. It is amazing to know that there are over 15,000 trees in this park right in the middle of the city. Take a ride on a rowboat on the man-made lake and see the white stone statues of several kings and queens of Spain. The rose garden is delightful and there are many places to enjoy privacy in secluded spots. After a day of touring this magnificent city, a good meal of local dishes should be in store. Start that meal with the tapas which is an appetizer. A Madrid tradition is simply to go out for tapas and a drink, even without a meal. A visit to Madrid will always be remembered by not only the sights and sounds but the wonderful, friendly Spanish people who make it so remembered.
