Each generations has its own concept of what the first date should be like. And like everything else in live it will indeed change. Just listen to your children , it will either amuse you or scare you! Its interesting though to see what is acceptable today or what men and woman really think is the idea date. A survey was put together buy Shine and Maxim, they asked some 2,000 readers what they thought. Its seems that most women prefer dates where there is an activity to focus the date, while men were the ones who wanted to go out for dinner and drinks, and men were the ones more interested in pursuing , serious long term relationships. Now I realize that is suppose to be today’s concept of dating but doesn't really sound to different than the advice my parents gave me. Dad was “take her to dinner”, and Mom was “ go bowling or roller skating”. So to me so far not much has changed. But here are a few more reactions that might prove interesting. Social networking plays a bigger role now then ever before, and chivalry isn't dead after all. Some 69 % of the guys think of themselves as old-fashioned gentlemen, even though only 40% of the women expect then to be. Here's one for all those lonely soles out there; 38 percent of the adult population in the United States is looking to date or at least "hook up." And yes, that includes married people—10 percent of them say they're "on the market" and dating, according to the survey results. Facebook and Myspace are fine, but the vast majority of people (75 percent) prefer a post-date follow-up by phone—and 85 percent of daters want to hear from you in some way within three days of the date. (Does a text count as a phone message? To younger daters, maybe. But if you're older than 35, say your words out loud, please.) And believe it or not , personality was the most important criteria for daters (84 percent), beating out brains (69 percent), shared interests or hobbies (65 percent), and looks (60 percent). So there is still hope for us to be ourselves and there is someone out there that likes us for us! Has the perfect date changed yet? Women said they prefer dates involving an activity, including bowling, going to the movies, or taking a walk together, while men leaned towards dinner and drinks, especially in the early stages of a relationship. So I guess it just depends. Okay chivalry isn't dead and being a gentleman is still required by most women, and 55 percent of women said that chivalry didn't matter much to them, 69 percent of guys consider themselves to be old-fashioned gentlemen, and are more than willing to get the door for you—and, possibly, pick up the check as well. Even in this post-feminist age, men spend about twice as much on dates as women do—about $80 per date compared to $40— with more women being willing to split the bill after the third date. And guys, wait on the flowers: Women still like getting them, but apparently not on the first date. So has it changed through out the years , I don't think so.
