Stress is a condition that depletes our body and is a result of the need to constantly adapt to continuous changes of the environment in which we live. The positive side of stress is its ability to make us act, to help us understand situations better, to deal more adequately with them. The negative influence of stress comes from the fact that its continuous action can cause feelings such as disbelief, anger and depression, which in turn leads to health problems, such as headaches, problems with stomach, skin diseases, insomnia, high blood pressure, heart diseases. Death of a loved one, birth of a child, a new relationship, a new job - all these events, although contrasting to each other are associated with prolonged stress because they require the same of us - changes in our lifestyle and efforts to adapt. While adapting to environmental changes, stress can help us or harm us, all depends on the way in which we perceive new situations. We do not have to eliminate stress (Do you know that in Danish the term is stress behandling). Positive stress makes our life more exciting and enriches our experiences, makes us feel more alive and happy with the way we live. If our everyday life is so devoid of stress, we should not require any effort to meet the changes or challenges, this leads to depression in time. On the other hand the too much stress leads to exhaustion and the feeling that we are “squeezed”. The prolonged exposure to too many stressors eventually leads us to the limit of our power. The aim for each of us is to find the optimal level of stress in our lives, which to be a sufficient source of motivation, but at the same time, it should not exhaust our mental and physical forces. There is no certain level of stress which is equal for all the people. We are all individuals with individual needs. Events and situations that one person perceives as stressful and unpleasant can be perceived in the opposite way by another person. Even when we agree with each other that a given event is a source of negative emotions and feelings, there are again differences in our psychological and physiological reactions. It is proved that most diseases are directly related to the unrelieved stress. The occurrence of stress symptoms is a signal that we have passed the margin of the optimal level. There are two guidelines that help if you have reached a state of congestion: -you should simply reduce stress by eliminating some of its sources in your daily life; -another way is to try to improve your ability to control stress-the basic idea here is that there is no actual stressful situations but people who perceive them as such. There are many techniques that can help us reach this state.
