Dubai is one of seven cities that make up the country known as the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In the last 20 odd years this town has grown to be a metropolis teaming with economic activity. Even though Dubai offers a lot of activity for the visitor, the main attraction of Dubai is shopping. Simply put, Dubai is one the best places in the world to do shopping. The prices and choices available here will please even the most discerning shopper. Even though this city started its life as an oil producing location, later it grew to be a place supported by tourism and of course shopping. Of course, Dubai is known for something else and that would be hotels. Dubai hotels are rated as some of the best in the world. Dubai is home to the biggest shopping mall in the world, outside of North America. This mall is named the Mall of the Emirates. Even though not as big, there are other malls such as BurJuman Center, Al Mulla Center and Deira City Center. Goods such as gold jewellery and watches will be much cheaper, compared to other places in the world. In fact, Bur Juman shopping centre is known for its gold products, and you will be able to pick some up for a steal. Perhaps this is why some people have nicknamed Dubai as the city of gold. Another big shopping attraction of Dubai is its famous “Souks”. Souks are market places that are more traditional. It will be streets lined with stores selling everything from spices, gold, clothes and dotted with cafes. However, Dubai is not all about shopping. There are other activities available also for sight seers and adventure seekers. Water sports are a popular attraction. Wild Wadi is a water theme park, where bathers can frolic in a wave pool or go down water slides. The mall of Emirates even has an indoor ski slope, along with several ice skating rinks. Other popular activities include hanging out on the beach, or to go on a night time desert safari. As far as Dubai hotels go, there are very few places in the world that offer such a wide choice for people. Everything from small budget hotels to 7 stars, yes, that’s 7 star hotels are available. In fact the world’s only 7 star hotel, the Burj-al Arab, is located here. Beach resort hotels are also located in this city. Hotels here no matter what their rating, are considered to be some of the best in terms of quality of service. The city has plenty of taxis available and there are also rental cars.
