These filters are supposed to raise your pH levels to as high as 12, which if possible would certainly result in your death. In some instances these units are referred to as antioxidant filters, but antioxidants cannot survive in water with a high pH level either. You need antioxidants to slow the effects of oxidation on the body, but you are going to have to get them somewhere else because high alkaline water does not provide them. Drinking unfiltered tap water actually increases your risk of developing cancer, as you are ingesting traces of carcinogens nearly every day. Instead of worrying about the alkalinity of your drinking water, you would be better off thinking about eliminating these carcinogens and other toxic chemicals.
