Drug addiction and its severity is a frightening concept for friends, family members or spouses of addicts to grasp. There are many signs of an unhealthy addiction that seem to fade over time, in the eyes of an addict. If your family member is consistently showing up extremely late to family events, and leaving early, this may also be a sign that your loved one is using. Also, if your loved one is randomly disappearing and reappearing from the event at intermittent times, it may be a sign that they are leaving to use their drug. Consistently Needing Financial Assistance Fast: An addict may live on a day to day need for their drug and life that falls within that addiction. Extreme addicts rarely think about next week or next month, and are constantly asking loved ones and friends for fast cash to support their addiction or lack toward other financial obligations. Faulty reasons may be given for the need of cash, in addition to the extreme need for it in a hurried manner. If you wish to assist your loved one, but suspect addiction, ask if you can write them a check, to a particular establishment to assist them further. The response is often a valid evaluation of their situation as a possible drug addict. Out of Character Behaviors: Although people do change over the years, growing as individuals, dealing with hardships financially or emotionally, the base of a person’s character remains. If you are witness to an extreme change of character, in your friend of family member, it may be a sign of addiction. It is especially possible if these changes are exhibited on and off, on a regular basis; modeling the highs and lows of this particular individual’s addiction.
