China's first Antarctic Telescope Array CSTAR (Chinese Small Telescope Array) in the CAS Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics Technology successfully developed and passed the inspection. The telescope array by the Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics Technology, Purple Mountain Observatory, National Astronomical Observatory of cooperation in the development, by 4 sets of 14.5 cm diameter field of view telescope mounted on a rack consisting of a small telescope array, respectively, white and configuration g, r, i four kinds of filters and the CCD camera 1kx1k. Dome-A poor environment, the minimum temperature -89 degrees Celsius, unattended. CSTAR's development will also develop our future large aperture optical telescope in Antarctica and lay the foundation for accumulated experience. Currently the telescope array was shipped on October 16 in Shanghai China Polar Research Center, and later this month with the "Snow Dragon" set sail to begin the 24th Chinese Antarctic scientific expedition's journey. Australian Astronomy site experts in September 2004 article published in Nature that the Antarctic ice dome C (Dome-C) is the best on earth astronomical observatory site, and predict the elevation of 4093 meters the highest point of the Antarctic Dome Dome -A may be better. China's Antarctic scientific expedition team in January 2005 was the first to board the Dome-A, as China's Antarctic astronomical observatory created an unprecedented opportunity. In 2006, our expert astronomers and astronomical instruments made timely development of the Antarctic telescope, in the Dome-A photometric observations and measurements of the proposed station sites, are the basis of Council and the China Academy of Sciences astronomical community support. China will in the earth's extreme shelves of a large astronomical telescope, "up" Looking to the space outside the galaxy far; "down", China will work together with scientists of many countries, in the Dome A ice core drilling, to sleep 1.5 million changes in climate history, brought to light. China's scientific exploration work in the Antarctic region had been in the forefront of the world. China has established in the Antarctic Great Wall Station and Zhongshan Station. Early 2005 to Zhongshan Station as a transit to the Chinese Antarctic expedition team debut at the highest point of the Antarctic ice sheet inland?? Altitude of 4093 meters of Dome A, which marks the Chinese Antarctic expedition embarked on a new level. Deputy Director of the Antarctic Astronomical Center of China, Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics Technology Cui Xiangqun description, from the point of view of astronomical observations, observations of Dome A condition is any place on Earth can not be compared, as here, the atmosphere quiet and a very high degree, which can be observed in the many special planetarium. Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics Technology assumed the Antarctic astronomical instrument development work. Cui Xiangqun, said, because meter telescope observing astronomical phenomena in the same time, can measure the size and brightness variation, which will help the work of astronomical observation site, which experts have chosen the first such telescope as the telescope into the Antarctic interior type.
