The veins are caused when blood pools in one place on a vein and can’t move. It will cause discoloration, swelling and pain. There can be enough of a problem that walking can be become difficult and blood clots can become dangerous to your health and your life. So do not take the problem lightly if there is pain and swelling involved. Each night before bed, lie on the floor next to the wall. Lie flat on your back and raise your legs against the wall. This will raise your feet over your head and straight in the air so circulation and blood flow improve. How close you get to the wall is up to you. Some people can’t raise the legs straight up, because of back pain or other health issue, but get your feet up as high as you can even if you have to use a chair against the wall. Stay in that position for at least 15 minutes each day. You can sing, relax, go to sleep, read a book or anything else. As long as you keep the position and relax. Make sure you exercise daily by walking if you do not have much movement in your job. Sitting can cause poor circulation in the legs and feet, and this will create more pain in the area of varicose veins. If you are in a sitting position you can pump your feet up and down to help blood flow or raise your feet and legs onto another chair to promote good circulation. Raising your feet and letting the blood flow and muscle rest are great for reducing pain.
