Blogging is undoubtedly one of the most popular phenomena on the Internet, and it often seems as if you can't do a bit of surfing without running into one blog or another. Originally intended as a means of sharing information within a relatively small circle, blogs have since transcended this purpose and become a full-blown communication platform in its own right. While the use of blogs as personal means of communication is still widespread, it has recently come into its own as a viable source of news as well. More and more people are opting to log on to specific blogs in order to get information about late breaking events, and there is certainly no shortage of blogger news sites around. For an Internet audience that has become increasingly reliant on getting information online, blogger news represents the next logical step in news access and distribution. But how reliable is blogger news exactly, and how much of a role does it play in keeping us informed? Of course the restrictions that traditional news sources have to deal with also ensure the veracity of information, which is one notable advantage that they have over blogger news. It is therefore important not to consider blogger news as wholly accurate until the information has been verified, and to treat it is a supplement to traditional news sources rather than an alternative. Nevertheless, blogger news performs a very essential function in today's society, one that we can all take advantage of.
